It is most frequently used on Tumblr as an indictment of pomposity that often prevails in the hipster subculture, or in sarcastic defense of a niche subgenre in music or visual art.

Fun fact: The dress IT is wearing is stylized wood grain and has intricate looping down the front of the garment. To ship it the loops were individually filled with little cardboard tubes to keep them puffy :D
